Jóhannes Ágúst is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, music producer, songwriter and audio engineer based in Reykjavík, Iceland. He has produced for many local acts in Iceland as well media composing for TV shows and advertisements.
He is also known for his role as head of audio at Icelandic startup music tech company Overtune. Jóhannes has a diverse musical background ranging from his roots in electronic music to pop and R&B. He has a degree in music production and songwriting from Linnéuniversitet in Sweden.
Jóhannes took the role of head of audio at Overtune from launch till 2023. Overtune is a music making app with a built-in sample library. In this role, his diverse musical background paved the way for the creation of 100+ sample packs, ranging from R&B to hyperpop. The startup raised over $2 million in its seed round, including backing from whynow, Gabriel Jagger's (Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger’s son) online magazine. Shareholders feature Charles Huang (creator of Guitar Hero) and Nick Gatfield (former CEO and chairman of Sony Music UK).
Jóhannes has composed for advertisements as well as scoring upcoming TV series 'Flamingo’ (2024) and documentary series 'Sveitarómantík’ (2024). He has also produced and written original music for comedy series 'Kanarí' (2022) and 'Áramótaskaupið’ as well as the Icelandic Eurovision national selection 'Söngvakeppnin’ (2024).
